Lake Levels in Norris Lake Are Rising

During most of the winter, Norris Lake levels were above the typical winter pool levels of 995 feet above sea level.  This was primarily because of the heavy fall rains here and parts north of us.  But towards the end of winter and just before spring, the levels did go down for a short period.  We are now about 10 feet below the usual full summer pool of 1020 ft above sea level.

There is good news and not so good news about this.  The lake is really looking pretty and, once the water is all the way over the reddish-yellow banks, it will be stunning.  The bad news is that there were a whole lot of trees that fell onto the banks last year and, as the lake levels rose the trees became boats.  In another week or so, they will wash ashore some untrodden soil (most landowners cut them up and burn them if they wash up on their property) or they will sink.  Nevertheless, it is odd to look out the window and see the many trees floating down the lake.

You can check lake conditions and water levels at the TN Valley Authority's website.  And, as always, I am available for questions about Norris Lake in general, communities around the lake or specific properties.
